Maureen St. Clair is an artist, peace educator, community facilitator, activist and writer. Born and raised in Canada, with Grenadian citizenship, Maureen has lived in Grenada, West Indies for over 20 years with Grenadian partner and daughter, Theo and Maya.
Maureen has worked on a multitude of development projects within the field of community peacebuilding with various Grenadian NGOs and community-based organizations, such as Grenada Save the Children (GrenSave), Grenada Education and Development Program (GRENED), Grenada’s National Organization of Women (GNOW), Harford Village Peace Youth Leaders, and government community projects such as Grenada’s National Literacy Campaign. Maureen has also worked extensively with youth, and in particular youth at risk. She uses creative arts as a means to personal and social transformation.
Maureen is known throughout the Caribbean and internationally for her vibrant, multi-racial, women-positive paintings inspired by her work with women and youth. Maureen’s artwork has been used as official logos for various non-profit organizations such as the World Health Organization/Grenada Health Organization, Antigonish Women’s Resource Centre, and a Canadian women’s online-magazine called Cahoots. Maureen is also an accomplished writer recently winning the Atlantic Writers Award and the Beacon Award for Social Justice Literature with her novel, Judith and Sola which will be published with Roseway Publishing and released spring of 2018.
While in Nova Scotia Maureen is an Associate of Coady International Institute and for the past 8 years Maureen has co-facilitated the Community-Based Conflict Transformation & Peacebuilding certificate, Cooperative Inquiry Seminars, Foundations in Leadership and Adult Education and has been involved with Coady’s Global Change Leaders and Global Youth Leadership program. At StFX, Maureen coordinates and facilitates the Service Learning Program to Grenada. This program empowers students to work for personal and social change by providing them with an opportunity to learn about development issues both home and abroad.
Maureen holds a Master of Adult Education and a Bachelor of Education from StFX and has and continues to school extensively within the school of life!
