Title

AIDS, citizenship and global funding: A Gambian case study

Author

Cassidy, Rebecca; Leach, Melissa

Description

An HIV-positive diagnosis is a struggle and across Africa this is mediated by a new globalism in public health.  In the health sector, governance has moved away from forms of authority and towards new arrangements including global public-private-philanthropic partnerships.  This case study looks at the authority and governance working through other organisations and agencies.  For people living with HIV in the Gambia, making claims based on their status has been difficult and their ability to shape what goes on and assert their needs are often limited.
