Destitution in Wollo, Ethiopia

A research project into the destitution in the former Wollo province of Ethiopia. This project focuses on the contradiction between household surveys that say poverty has decreased and evidence from unofficial sources that say this is not the case. The research is also concerned with international assistance that addresses emergency appeals for food and ignores the underlying causes of chronic food insecurity. The objective of this study is to focus policy maker's attention away from transitory food insecurity and towards the needs of a growing number of people living in extreme poverty or "destitution".
