This report is a substantially revised and updated version of a paper by the Paul McGuire titled "The Asian Financial Crisis: Some Implications for Microfinance" which appeared in The MicroBanking Bulletin, No.2, July 1998. It examines the effect on microfinance institutions in nine southeast Asian countries of a severe economic and financial crisis in Asia in 1997-98.
