Title

Innovation in Gari production: The case for an intermediate technology

Author

Kaplinsky, Raphie

Description

This paper examines the choice of techniques in the processing of gari from cassava in Nigeria. Two techniques are contrasted - a fully-mechanised foreign machine and an intermediate, locally-generated technique. The broad conclusion is that both private and social optimality are furthered by the use of the intermediate technique.
