Wind and solar power are the world's fastest-growing energy sources, with capacity expanding at double-digit rates every year over the past decade. At a time of accelerating global energy demand and rising concerns about energy supplies and the external costs of conventional energy, renewables are offering real solutions. Their dynamic growth has been driven largely by a handful of countries that have adopted a mix of strong policies to access, financial incentives, education and training, stakeholder participation, and industry standards.
