Title

The myths and realities of local governance in Sanankoroba, Mali

Author

Djire, Moussa

Description

Decentralisation has become one of the central aims of the Third Republic of Mali since the democratic process was set in motion in 1991. It is intended to improve administration and stimulate local development, by transferring certain powers from the State to local governments with separate legal status, financial autonomy and the power to manage their own affairs. This paper discusses how decentralisation affects people's lives and what it has accomplished. The paper explores the effect of decentralisation in the rural municipality of Sanankoroba.
