Title

Till to tiller: international migration remittances and land rights in West Africa

Author

Cotula, Lorenzo; Toulmin, Camilla

Description

It is known that migrants constitute an invaluable resource for development and poverty reduction in their home countries. At the same time, migration creates new challenges. In an agricultural-based economy, labour shortages may make the local economy dependent on remittances. This may lead to inequality, competition and conflict among those who do and do not receive the remittances.
