The conservation of wildlife is sometimes presented as irrelevant or an obstacle to development. In fact, the actual and potential contribution of wildlife to social and economic development is substantial. This article presents an examination of a project implemented in Zambia to conserve wildlife in conjunction with rural development programmes.
