Circle of Abundance Indigenous Programming
Building on more than a decade of programming for First Nations, Métis and Inuit women leaders, Coady Institute launched the Circle of Abundance Indigenous Program in 2020 together with the support of 11 Indigenous women across the country. The name Circle of Abundance was chosen by the group to signify a shift in thinking about managing poverty in Indigenous communities to recognizing and building upon the assets and gifts already there. In particular, the Circle of Abundance signifies the strength and resilience of Indigenous women who are the backbones of their communities, as well as the importance of support that can be created when they come together. As part of the program, a range of courses, community partnerships and activities are planned for 2021 and the years to follow.
The Circle of Abundance is looking for up to two dynamic summer interns to join the team from May – August 2021. Candidates for both positions must meet the following criteria:
- Must be First Nations, Métis or Inuit students studying at STFX;
- Ideally will have completed the third or fourth year of studies at StFX and will continue to be enrolled and pursuing full-time post-secondary studies following this employment period; and
- Can provide an official transcript, if called for an interview.
The summer intern will support the team with the following responsibilities:
- Undertake preliminary research and review pertaining to topics of relevance to the Centre in support of our Indigenous Women in Leadership program as well as local initiatives and new partnerships being developed;
- Attend meetings or activities as needed in community related to this programming (consistent with COVID-19 guidelines);
- Provide logistical assistance with the activities and coordination of on-site or online program activities; and
- Assist with the preparation of content and activities related to related women’s leadership alumnae networks.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Knowledge and interest in Indigenous leadership and community development; gender and women’s leadership and studies, development studies;
- Strong writing and research skills;
- Ability to work cohesively in a team environment;
- Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, proven problem-solving skills and the ability to complete multiple tasks in a timely and effective manner to meet tight deadlines;
- Advanced skills in all Microsoft Office 365 Components (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Access);
- Proficiency in an Indigenous language (oral and written) would be an asset in this position.
International Centre for Women’s Leadership
Women’s and Indigenous leadership is a strong focus for Coady Institute’s work: the International Centre for Women’s Leadership currently manages five women’s leadership programs benefitting women in Canada and abroad, with other programs under development. The Centre is also engaged in a number of research initiatives and community projects that enhance the curriculum as well as contribute to policy and practice in the fields of gender equality and women’s rights.
The Centre is looking for up to two dynamic summer interns to join the team from May – August 2021. Candidates for both positions must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or hold a student visa with a work permit;
- Ideally have completed the third or fourth year of studies at StFX and will continue to be enrolled and pursuing full-time post-secondary studies following your employment period; and
- Can provide an official transcript, if called for an interview.
During the spring and summer the Centre will be running a range of online courses and activities as well as undertaking research, led by a dynamic team of staff, associate facilitators and expert women leaders and scholars from across Canada and globally. The summer intern will support the team with the following responsibilities:
- Undertake preliminary research and review pertaining to topics of relevance to the Centre in support of our global women’s leadership programs and in particular, utilizing a feminist intersectional lens;
- Provide logistical assistance with the activities and coordination of on-site or online program activities; and
- Assist with the preparation of content and activities related to related women’s leadership alumnae networks.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Knowledge and interest in intersectionality, gender and women’s leadership and studies, development studies and/or community development (either local or global);
- Strong writing and research skills;
- Ability to work cohesively in a team environment;
- Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, proven problem-solving skills and the ability to complete multiple tasks in a timely and effective manner to meet tight deadlines;
- Advanced skills in all Microsoft Office 365 Components (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Access);
- Proficiency in French or Spanish (oral and written) would be an asset in this position.
