Brian Lazzuri

Manager Marketing and Communications

Prior to joining the Coady team, Brian was General Manager and Editor of the Casket newspaper in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. His 15 years of experience in the news media industry included stints as a sales executive, editor, and in senior management. He has launched and re-develop publications and websites and developed marketing campaigns for corporate and non-profit clients.

Brian was a member of the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors, served as a judge for various newspaper competitions and served on the board of directors for Newspapers Atlantic. He has been recognized for his editorial writing on local and national topics while the Casket was a multi-time finalist in various categories in the Atlantic Community Newspaper Association’s Better Newspaper Competition. The publication was runner up in the Canadian Newspaper Association’s Better Newspaper Best All-Round newspaper in 2012 and was named Best All-Round Newspaper in the 2015 competition.

A native of Virginia, Brian’s professional career has included time as a teacher and national development director for a non-profit organization. He remains active in the local community having served on the board for the Antigonish Chamber of Commerce and was co-chair of the communications committee for the Special Olympics 2018 National Summer Games. Brian is currently President of the Antigonish Baseball Association while also coaching and umpiring.

We express our deep gratitude and appreciation to the generations of Mi’kmaw who, since time immemorial, have loved and stewarded these lands and the beings who call them home. Colonization is not just history; it exists in the present tense. While we strive to decolonize ourselves and our University, we know there is still much for us to learn.

We are committed to doing the hard work of self-reflection and to repairing relationships with the Mi’kmaw on whose lands we reside, including embracing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action and embodying their spirit in our plans to move forward with our University.
