Adam Baden-Clay (Manager, Youth Programs) will receive the St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) Outstanding Staff Teaching Award at the university’s December convocation ceremony, December 5.

The award recognizes teaching staff at StFX who have contributed exceptionally to students’ learning experiences.

“What has always struck me about Adam’s teaching is the incredible amount of planning and preparation he puts into both the content and the process of facilitation,” says Coady Institute’s Executive Director, Gord Cunningham.

“Adam has striven to give legs and meaning to StFX’s mission of developing new generations of leaders with a deep commitment to community and service,” adds Coady’s Director of Education Programs, Anthony Scoggins.

“Adam’s pedagogy is rooted in the classic, time-tested approach of the Coady Institute that recognizes that all learners bring their own unique personal stories, knowledge, and experiences to the classroom.

“He understands that it is only from a deeper and critical reflection on who we are as individuals that we can begin to assemble the analysis and insight, courage and confidence, strategies and tools needed to drive and support change processes in the larger community.”

[The graduates] described Adam’s classroom as a special place in which diverse groups of young people explore together the dynamics of social change alongside those of personal growth.

At least four people must nominate a candidate before being reviewed by an award committee. Graduates of the Pathy Foundation Fellowship – a yearlong fellowship that he facilitates with young leaders from Canada striving to make meaningful change in their communities – nominated Adam.

“They described with a mix of both awe and appreciation how the fellowship had been the most radically transformational educational experience of their lives,” Anthony explains.

“They described Adam’s classroom as a special place in which diverse groups of young people explore together the dynamics of social change alongside those of personal growth.”
