In this conversation with Laurie Edwards, we will explore the key changes Laurie has seen in the workplace and workforce over her 25-year career in career development and counseling.

In particular, we will delve into her perspective on whether the current questions about the 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 are fundamentally different from previous periods of technological disruption in the past.

Based on Laurie’s unique vantage point, she will also share her thoughts on the implications of the increasing shift towards a gig economy and the change in workplace culture as Millennials and Generation Z begin to replace the exiting Baby Boomers.

Finally, drawing on the lessons she has learned over her career, Laurie will also share what she believes are the timeless skills, capabilities and habits one should develop and cultivate in order to build a resilient career.

St. Francis Xavier University and Coady Institute stand on the lands of Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded home of the Mi’kmaw. We express our deep gratitude and appreciation to the generations of Mi’kmaw who, since time immemorial, have loved and stewarded these lands and the beings who call them home. Colonization is not just history; it exists in the present tense. While we strive to decolonize ourselves and our University, we know there is still much for us to learn.

We are committed to doing the hard work of self-reflection and to repairing relationships with the Mi’kmaw on whose lands we reside, including embracing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action and embodying their spirit in our plans to move forward with our University.
