The webinar is being hosted as part of the Community-Based Development: Strategies and Practices Development Studies (405) course at St. Francis Xavier University.

Topic Overview: Territories are dynamic spaces shaped by their unique sociocultural, economic, and environmental identities. Territorial development arises when local actors collaborate to design and implement projects that reflect these identities. This process is ongoing, requiring active participation, partnerships, and collective action. In this seminar, we will explore how these interactions drive sustainable development and foster long-term change through the involvement of local stakeholders. Participants will gain valuable insights into how territorial learning supports sustainable, community-based development, as well as strategies to effectively engage social actors in the collective shaping of their territories.

Date:  Thursday, October 31
Time:  2:30 pm to 3:45 pm (Halifax time)
Platform:  Zoom

St. Francis Xavier University and Coady Institute stand on the lands of Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded home of the Mi’kmaw. We express our deep gratitude and appreciation to the generations of Mi’kmaw who, since time immemorial, have loved and stewarded these lands and the beings who call them home. Colonization is not just history; it exists in the present tense. While we strive to decolonize ourselves and our University, we know there is still much for us to learn.

We are committed to doing the hard work of self-reflection and to repairing relationships with the Mi’kmaw on whose lands we reside, including embracing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action and embodying their spirit in our plans to move forward with our University.
