Angel Aubichon (Indigenous Women in Community Leadership, 2017) is receiving an award of $20,000 from Storyhive – a Telus program that funds local filmmakers from Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, with the goal of “creating and amplifying local stories and voices”.
The successful pitch is for a short documentary titled, “My Blood Memory is Couture”. The film will document a series of workshops conducted by a knowledge keeper that focuses on rites of passage from the perspective of traditional dress and personal adornment.
“Sharing the story about certain rites of passage is necessary for the development of our role in the community,” describes Angel in the project’s pitch.
“Design and making provide tools to heal and connect with self and community.”
The production team also includes Coady Grad, Alexandra Manitopyes (Indigenous Women in Community Leadership, 2017).
Applications for the 2019 Indigenous Women in Community Leadership program open February 1, 2019.
