Learning. Leadership. Partnership.

Meaningful change begins with people – people who know their communities, recognize the assets and strengths around them, and are ready to turn knowledge into collective action.

In 2025–26, Coady Institute brought Walking with Community: Strategic Direction 2025–2030 to life by strengthening education, deepening partnerships, and creating more opportunities for community leaders to learn, connect, and act. Across Canada and around the world, participants and partners demonstrated the courage, creativity, and determination needed to respond to complex challenges and build more just, inclusive, and hopeful futures.

From connecting more than 100 participants through global learning exchanges, to contributing to housing conversations here in Antigonish, to expanding women’s leadership education in Africa, the year offered powerful examples of what becomes possible when people come together around shared learning and purpose.

At the heart of Coady’s approach is a simple but powerful question: What knowledge, leadership, relationships, and assets are already here – and how can they become the foundation for lasting change?

This annual report reflects a year of learning together, strengthening leadership, and building partnerships that extend far beyond individual programs and projects. Behind every number is a person with experience to share, questions to explore, relationships to build, and a commitment to action.

St. Francis Xavier University and Coady Institute stand on the lands of Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded home of the Mi’kmaw. We express our deep gratitude and appreciation to the generations of Mi’kmaw who, since time immemorial, have loved and stewarded these lands and the beings who call them home. Colonization is not just history; it exists in the present tense. While we strive to decolonize ourselves and our University, we know there is still much for us to learn.

We are committed to doing the hard work of self-reflection and to repairing relationships with the Mi’kmaw on whose lands we reside, including embracing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action and embodying their spirit in our plans to move forward with our University.
