Strengthening Communities through Cooperation

1. Many people support causes they care about. What is it about Coady that feels especially meaningful or personal to you, or to East Coast Credit Union?

Coady and East Coast Credit Union share deep roots in the cooperative movement and a belief that strong communities are built by empowering people. Coady’s focus on helping people recognize their strengths and develop their leadership mirrors what we strive to do at East Coast. I believe these shared values of cooperation, inclusion and community-led change are as relevant today as ever.

2. What gives you hope when you think about the future of communities, whether globally or close to home?

People give me hope. I see volunteers, young leaders, nonprofits, and businesses stepping forward every day to strengthen their communities. I’m especially encouraged by the next generation and their commitment to inclusion and innovation. The cooperative model reminds us that by working together around a shared purpose, we can accomplish far more than we can alone.

3. What have you learned about leadership, community, or yourself through your relationship with Coady that has stayed with you?

Coady has reinforced for me that leadership begins with listening. Lasting change comes from recognizing the strengths already within a community and creating space for people to contribute and lead. That has shaped my own approach: meaningful progress happens when people feel valued, empowered, and connected to a shared purpose.

4. When you think about the kind of world you hope future generations inherit, where do you see Coady’s work making the greatest difference?

I’m proud to live in Antigonish and see Coady’s influence in our community. I hope future generations inherit inclusive, resilient communities where people have a meaningful voice in shaping their futures and learn from each other. Coady makes a lasting difference by developing leaders who return to their communities, create positive change, and inspire others—building a ripple effect that can last for generations.

5. Is there anything else you would like to add?

I have been actively engaged with the Women’s Mentorship Program for over a decade, serving as a mentor and champion for women’s leadership development. My commitment to mentoring grew out of my connections with the Coady Institute, where I learned the importance of empowering individuals to create positive change in their organizations and communities. Through WMP, I have had the privilege of helping emerging women leaders in the Credit Union movement strengthen their skills, expand their networks, and realize the impact they can have on those around them.
