Governance

Coady Institute reflects a commitment by St. Francis Xavier University of nearly 100 years of leadership in community education. It is a merger of two former St. Francis Xavier University units: the Extension Department (1928) and the Coady International Institute (1959). The Coady Institute Executive Director is responsible for all activities and funding for the Institute. The Executive Director reports to the Vice-President Academic and Provost and serves on the University’s Leadership Council and Senate. The role also includes engagement with the StFX Board of Governors, reporting through its Advancement and External Relations Committee.

The University, and Coady Institute by affiliation, is a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA Registration/BN: 10808 3270 RR0001) registered under the legal name: Governors of St. Francis Xaver University.

St. Francis Xavier University and Coady Institute stand on the lands of Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded home of the Mi’kmaw. We express our deep gratitude and appreciation to the generations of Mi’kmaw who, since time immemorial, have loved and stewarded these lands and the beings who call them home. Colonization is not just history; it exists in the present tense. While we strive to decolonize ourselves and our University, we know there is still much for us to learn.

We are committed to doing the hard work of self-reflection and to repairing relationships with the Mi’kmaw on whose lands we reside, including embracing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action and embodying their spirit in our plans to move forward with our University.
