Wycliffe shared how his participation in educational programs at Coady significantly transformed both his personal leadership approach and the way the Kenyan Paraplegic Organization engages with communities:

“Before attending Coady, I was actively working in governance and community development, but our strategies were largely project-driven. Although we aimed to support marginalized groups—especially women and youth — we did not always center their voices in decision-making processes. My time at Coady changed that perspective fundamentally and transformed my leadership identity. I now see myself not only as a program implementer but as a facilitator of collective power. I lead with greater intentionality around inclusion, especially for women and youth. Rather than simply encouraging participation, I actively work to create safe and enabling spaces where marginalized voices can influence decisions. This shift has strengthened the quality and sustainability of our governance initiatives. The most meaningful outcome has been witnessing women and youth gain confidence, visibility, and influence in spaces where they were previously excluded. The ripple effect continues as CBOs and NGOs replicate these approaches in other communities.

Coady also expanded my global perspective. Engaging with practitioners from different countries exposed me to diverse strategies for social change and reinforced the value of solidarity across contexts. The peer learning and ongoing connections continue to inspire me and inform my work.

On a personal level, the experience increased my confidence to advocate for systemic change. I feel better equipped to challenge inequitable structures, engage policymakers, and support community-based organizations in becoming more citizen-led and accountable.”
