Sustainable development for the second world: Ukraine and the nations in transition

The political and economic turmoil facing former Soviet and Eastern Bloc republics has created severe economic, governance and environmental problems. The author argues that this turmoil also offers an opportunity to institute reforms according to the principles of sustainable development.
