Bank-NGO linkages and the transaction costs of lending to the poor through groups: evidence from India and the Philippines

This paper examines the importance of linkages between commercial banks and groups such as NGOs and self help groups for the poor, as a means of reducing transaction costs of lending and borrowing, while channeling credit to the poor on a sustainable basis.
