In this paper the author examines several projects in Indonesia, the Philippines and Nepal which attempt the replicate the Grameen Bank's methods and success. He finds that projects which rely on donor support as opposed to domestic and local savings undermine their own sustainability. He also concludes that there a number of sound practices which may be emulated successfully.
