This paper explores the elements required in a gender mainstreaming strategy for sustainable mountain development. It presents the results of a gender assessment conducted by the International Fund for Agricultural Development and implemented in the mountains of the Hindu Kush-Himalayas.
Included is a CD-ROM containing summaries of the assessment reports together with a copy of the guidelines that were developed for mainstreaming gender in the Western Uplands Poverty Alleviation Project.
