Monsanto and smallholder farmers: A case-study on corporate accountability

The Smallholder Programme (SHP) was an initiative undertaken by Monsanto, a biotechnology, chemical and seeds company. It provided smallholder farmers with agricultural extension services. This paper examines why and how the initiative was developed by the company, and considers its implications in terms of corporate accountability.
