NGOs, participation and rural development: testing the assumptions with evidence from Zimbabwe

Factors affecting the implementation of strategies for participatory development through NGOs in Zimbabwe are examined. The ideals of development NGOs in the literature is compared with evidence gathered to test assumptions about strategies and impacts of development NGOs. There is a wide range of types of programmes that may or may not reflect such ideals.
