Realities of change: understanding how African NGO leaders develop

This paper summarizes the findings of research into leadership undertaken by CORAT Africa in Kenya, INTRAC in Malawi and the Community Development Resource Network (CDRN) in Uganda. These organisations interviewed NGO leaders to find out their perspectives on leadership; leadership change processes; and factors affecting change in their leadership behavior. This paper highlights the issues that need to be considered when undertaking leadership development in capacity building.
