Some ecological and social implications of commercial shrimp farming in Asia

Shrimp aquaculture affects livelihoods by disrupting traditional systems of production, distribution and social relations. This paper looks at recent trends, identifies principal actors, considers the economic, political and environmental factors, and concludes that effective policies and reforms are required at all levels.
