Title

The role of linear programming methods in rural policy planning in developing countries

Author

Biggs, Stephen

Description

Linear programming is one of the fundamental techniques used by mathematical economic planning. In this paper we shall stand back from the mathematics, computer jargon, etc. of the quantitative economics and ask the question: "Have previous applications been concerned with important issues of income distribution, and has adequate attention been given to the full social 'costs and benefits' of advocating and using programming techniques in developing countries?"
