Recent events around the world demonstrate that young people are at the heart of social justice and social change. The Coady Institute recognizes both the need for and the capacity of youth leaders to play a pivotal role in community change.
Last year, the world’s population surpassed seven billion people, more than half of whom are under the age of 30. Young people are at the heart of today’s great strategic opportunities and challenges, from rebuilding the global economy to combating violent extremism to building a sustainable environment. Coady programs support the aspirations of young leaders around the globe for positive social change.

We are dedicated to providing knowledge-sharing, global experiences and education to support the aspirations of youth leaders in Canada and the developing world. Grounded in the Coady International Institute’s approach to citizen-led development, Coady Youth Programs offers learning opportunities for young leaders to develop the capacity for citizen action towards a more just world.
Pathy Foundation Fellowship
Targeted towards students 29 years old and under who are about to graduate from undergraduate or Masters level study at Bishop’s, McGill, uOttawa, Queen’s or StFX, the program offers up to $50,000 in funding to support Fellows’ travel, living expenses and project costs, while providing them with comprehensive learning support and ongoing guidance throughout.

Coady Institute provides a range of for-credit and extra-curricular career building opportunities for StFX students and youth designed to be practical, skills-based, and grounded in our commitment to social justice and community-driven development in Canada and internationally.

Event: Pathy Fellowship Poster Fair
May 23 | Join the 2023-24 Pathy Fellows as they share their experiences implementing innovative projects around the world. Nine Fellows working in Canada, Pakistan, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, and Malawi on a diverse range of social-change initiatives will present their projects.
Pathy Fellow Raising Mental Health Awareness in Pakistani Schools
Sara-Maya Kaba is using her Pathy Foundation Fellowship to support mental health in Pakistan. Through the Fellowship, Maya launched آواز (Aawaaz) which translates from Urdu to English as ‘sound’ or ‘voice’. She has been working with students and teachers to improve mental health outcomes through arts and sports activities.
Pathy Fellow Supporting Student Athletes to Lead Cultures of Consent
Aubrey Rose Apps is a recent graduate of Queen’s University where she co-chaired a student-based advocacy group called Consensual Humans. Motivated to continue this work beyond the walls of her alma mater, she is using her Pathy Fellowship to support student athletes to become leaders in consent education.
