Women in the informal sector and their access to microfinance

This paper examines the situation of women as micro entrepreneurs, who have become a key target group for microfinance programmes. The author, while agreeing that there has been a positive impact of providing microfinance services to female entrepreneurs in the informal sector, adds that microfinance is just one tool to address the multiple causes of poverty, unemployment and social exclusion.
