Women, subsistence and the informal sector: towards a framework of analysis

This article examines the concentration of women workers in the informal sector and argues that this concentration is the result of larger structural and ideological forces restricting the demand for women in the labour market. Sexual division of labour, child care and other issues are addressed with survival strategies outlined.
