Cross Project Work Strengthening Women’s Empowerment in Tanzania
In her work as a member of the Tanzania Gender Networking Program (TGNP) – one of five partners in Engage! Women’s Empowerment and Active Citizenship – Jovita Mlay supports community members in entrepreneurship and advocacy approaches to increase women’s empowerment. Her connection with Coady extended beyond the Engage project in 2023-2024 when she mentored Pathy Fellow Jacqueline Tomazic in Moshi, Tanzania.
ABCD course helps UHAI create ‘mind shift’
While UHAI and its partners continue to be realistic about the immense barriers they face, UHAI program officer Astheie says that a “mind shift” to focusing on the ABCD principles is necessary for building relationships and making progress.
Engage Partners Convene at Coady Institute
It was four years in the making but there were a lot of smiling faces and plenty of enthusiasm as partners from around the world gathered at Coady Institute early this summer for four days of meetings. Representatives from all partners of the ENGAGE! Women’s Empowerment and Active Citizenship project met at the Coady Institute July 15-18, 2024.

Welcoming Pathy Alumnx Aubrey Apps to Fellowship Team
As a recent Pathy Foundation Fellowship alumnx, Aubrey Apps knew she wanted to continue in a role dedicated to social impact work and adult education. Now, as the Pathy Foundation Fellowship Program Assistant, Aubrey supports the program’s marketing and promotion, recruitment, candidate advising, and work with the Fellows on their Pathy journeys.
Meet the 2024 Coady Summer Interns
An invaluable part of the team at Coady Institute are the student interns who dedicate their summer months to learning, leading, and supporting the work of the Institute. This year we have four students employed across various projects and teams including the Centre for Employment Innovation (CEI), Circle of Abundance, Education Programs, and Marketing and Communications.
National Indigenous People’s Day 2024: Uplifting Indigenous Women Leaders through Mentorship

Sharing our Voices through Photography: Women’s Experiences with the Engage Program in Bangladesh
On a recent trip to Bangladesh, Engage project manager Eric Smith met with representatives of CCDB and travelled to the country’s Southwestern region to visit some of the project’s sites and speak with some of the 400 women involved in Engage. The women participated in a photovoice exercise, which provided them with the opportunity to take pictures that assisted in explaining their stories and narratives.

Introducing the 2024-25 Pathy Fellows
We are pleased to announce the incoming young leaders for the 2024-25 Pathy Foundation Fellowship at Coady Institute.
The incoming Fellows will attend skill-building sessions and planning workshops at Coady Institute before commencing the ten-month community phase. Fellows will work with community partners to implement a broad diversity of projects, from capacity building and advocacy work with blind youth through storytelling in Nepal, to enhancing equitable access to haircare for Black youth in Ottawa, Ontario, to creating culturally sensitive spaces for addiction support in Edmonton, Alberta, and more
