Title

East African pastoralism: common land, common problems

Author

Lane, Charles; Swift, Jeremy

Description

This is a report of a workshop in Tanzania. Pastoralists have been accused of making inefficient use of the land, which has been used to justify forcing them off the land in favour of privately owned enterprises. Descriptions of Maasai, Barabaig and herders of North Kenya are provided, along with recommendations for protecting their livelihoods.
