Environmental entitlements: a framework for understanding the institutional dynamics of environmental change

There is a growing perception that community-based sustainable development often falls short of expectations. This paper focuses on the implications of intra-community dynamics and the role of institutions in mediating the relationships between environment and society. Case studies are provided from India, South Africa and Ghana.
