Title

Global engagements with global assessments: The case of the International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD)

Author

Scoones, Ian

Description

The International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD), which ran between 2003 and 2008, encouraged debate on the future of agricultural science and technology.  This paper focuses on IAASTD's goal of being more inclusive and participatory and discusses whether or not it met its objectives.  It examines two areas of interest - the use of quantitative scenario modelling and the role of gentically-modified crops in developing country agriculture.
