Social Capital and export growth: an industrial community in Southern Brazil

This paper explores the relevance of social capital for industrial development. Following one case study, it is shown how social capital was generated in a pre-industrial time, strengthened during early industrialization, but declined during a phase of rapid export growth. Social capital is now being rebuilt using different strategies.
