"Socialism" depicts the economic system which developed as a response to the abuses of workers which took place during the Industrial Revolution in England, and elsewhere in Europe. Robert Owen and his model factory in New Lanark, Scotland. In Sweden, the Social Democrats have implemented a mixed economy in order to improve the standard of living of all citizens, and to promote greater social and material equality.
