Sister to Sister Mentorship Program begins for 2021
The Nobel Women’s Initiative and Coady International Institute are excited to welcome 15 emerging women leaders to our nine-week advocacy and communications program for young women activists. Together, our sisters from Mexico, Iraq, Liberia, Palestine, Guatemala, Honduras, Nigeria, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt and Myanmar/Burma will build a community of care and support; strengthen their capacities and skills, and co-create a new vision for inclusive feminist peacebuilding and women’s rights advocacy.

For more than 61 years, the Antigonish community has welcomed Coady Institute participants from around the world creating a truly international experience enriching local culture, economy, and community spirit. Our largest online offering yet! We are offering an extensive program of online courses this year as we continue our commitment to developing knowledge and skills for social change. Online courses begin in April 2021 and offer the opportunity to learn with a cohort of change leaders from around the globe while balancing work and family commitments, offering affordable rates, and ensuring the health and safety of participants and staff by learning from home. Our program staff have developed five new courses, increasing opportunities for citizens passionate about social change – especially Indigenous, women, and youth leaders. Join us as we explore subjects ranging from feminist leadership and justice, to climate change and community resilience, to the future of work and workers, and more!

In Memoriam: Dr. Eric Amit
Dr. Amit was a former director of Coady Institute serving from 1991 to 1994 and 1995 to 1996. He played a significant role in the development of Coady’s transformative learning experience.

Adam Baden-Clay (Manager, Youth Programs) will receive the St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) Outstanding Staff Teaching Award at the university’s December convocation ceremony, December 5. The award recognizes teaching staff at StFX who have contributed exceptionally to students’ learning experiences.
Women Weave Change in Latin America: Course Equips Women with Capacities to Transform their Communities
Between November 2-20, Coady International Institute, in partnership with EPES, held its first leadership course for Latin American women, bringing together 24 grassroots leaders from 13 countries. Originally planned as an in-person seminar in Santiago, circumstances of the pandemic compelled an online format. Participants in this vivid expression of Latin American diversity—students, indigenous women, community educators, feminists, rural leaders and urban activists—shared two salient characteristics: all were women and all were striving to transform their respective communities.
Celebrity-Backed Initiative Amplifying Indigenous Women Leaders Reaches $1M Goal
Karri-Lynn Paul, Indigenous Program Teaching Staff, announced in an online event November 19 that the Circle of Abundance – Amplifying Indigenous Women’s Leadership initiative has reached its one-million-dollar fundraising goal.
